Is Laravel Cloud Worth It or Too Expensive for Your Production App
Laravel Cloud is worth it for apps that sleep a lot, small teams with no ops person, preview environments per PR and autoscaling bursts. It gets expensive for always on production apps once databases, cache and workers enter the bill, about $77 to $168 a month in our worked bills versus a $24 VPS plus a panel fee for the smaller production example. Forge on a VPS is the cheapest panel option. DeployManage costs more than Forge and is the option for teams that want flat bills on servers they own, with seats, atomic releases with rollback across several servers and a fleet-wide deploy log on the appropriate plan.
Skip the manual setup. DeployManage provisions your server and ships zero-downtime deploys on any cloud.
Get startedLaravel Cloud is worth paying for when it removes work your team cannot reasonably absorb. It is harder to justify on hosting cost alone once production stays awake all month and every supporting service adds another meter.
The monthly bills below use the October 2026 US East rates documented in our Laravel Cloud pricing breakdown. These are worked calculations, not customer invoices or bundled offers. Compare the whole application, including its database and workers, before deciding whether the platform is expensive.

Is Laravel Cloud worth it?
Laravel Cloud is worth it for apps that sleep often, small teams without an operations person, preview environments per pull request and traffic bursts that need autoscaling. For steady production workloads, its value comes from removing infrastructure work, rather than delivering the lowest possible monthly hosting bill.
A developer who owns deployments, database maintenance and incident response has less time for product work. Cloud can be a sensible purchase even when a server is cheaper. The useful question is whether the managed workflow removes responsibilities your team would otherwise struggle to cover.
All plans include unlimited apps, environments, builds and team members. Adding a teammate does not add a seat charge, but adding running environments adds usage. Our comparison of Laravel Cloud alternatives explains the server ownership tradeoff.
Is Laravel Cloud expensive?
Laravel Cloud is inexpensive for a sleeping internal tool, but an always on production stack can cost materially more than a VPS with Forge. Our worked monthly bills range from $5.00 to $168.00. DeployManage costs more than Forge, so switching panels alone does not guarantee a lower total.
Starter is $5, Growth $20 and Business $200 monthly plus usage; Enterprise is quoted. Every plan includes $5 of monthly usage credit. The totals below apply that credit to usage without reducing the plan fee. The internal tool's usage stays inside the credit.
| Application | Laravel Cloud resources and monthly bill | DigitalOcean Basic server | Server plus Forge Hobby | Server plus DeployManage Starter |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sleeping internal tool | Flex 512 MB and small Serverless Postgres on Starter, $5.00 | 1 GB, $6 | $18 ($6 + $12) | $65 ($6 + $59) |
| Small app always on | Flex 1 GB plus MySQL Flex 1 GB with 5 GB storage on Starter, $23.50 | 2 GB, $12 | $24 ($12 + $12) | $71 ($12 + $59) |
| Production app always on | Pro 1 vCPU 4 GB plus MySQL Flex 2 GB with 20 GB storage and Valkey 250 MB on Growth, $77.00 | 4 GB, $24 | $36 ($24 + $12) | $83 ($24 + $59) |
| Busy app with a worker | Pro 2 vCPU 8 GB plus Flex 1 GB worker, MySQL Pro 4 GB with 50 GB storage and Valkey 1 GB on Growth, $168.00 | 8 GB, $48 | $60 ($48 + $12) | $107 ($48 + $59) |
Laravel Cloud clearly wins the internal tool row and narrowly beats the small app's Forge total. The server sizes are consolidation starting points, not equivalent dedicated allocations or tested capacity guarantees. Web, database and workers share that RAM. Budget separately for backups, transfer and operations.
The production bill is $20 + $32 + $22 + $2 + $6, less $5 credit. The busy bill is $20 + $64 + $12 + $48 + $5 + $24, less $5. The production row has no separate worker; the busy row does.
Why is my Laravel Cloud bill so high?
A high Laravel Cloud bill usually reflects resources that stay awake, supporting services priced separately and replicas added during traffic spikes. The plan fee is only the starting point. A web app, worker, database and cache each contribute usage, and the monthly compute cap applies per resource rather than per account.
Flex compute bills per second while awake, capped at 28 days per month. Flex 512 MB, 1 GB and 2 GB cost up to $6, $12 and $24. Pro stays on: 4 GB costs $32 and 8 GB costs $64. Moving to Pro removes sleep savings.
Database choice matters. MySQL Flex 1 GB is $11 plus $0.10 per GB month of storage. Serverless Postgres charges $0.106 per compute unit hour while awake, about $77 monthly for a unit that never sleeps, plus $0.50 per GB month of storage.
Managed queue operations cost $1 per million. Dispatch, start and delete each count, so an operation is not a job. Bandwidth overage adds $0.10 per GB. Laravel has described pricing predictability as its most consistent customer feedback. Set spending limits and alerts on Starter or above, then review which services actually sleep.
When is Laravel Cloud worth the money?
Laravel Cloud earns its premium when your team needs managed infrastructure more than cheap reserved capacity. Sleeping apps benefit from Flex billing, small teams avoid taking on operations, preview environments shorten review cycles and autoscaling handles bursts. Those are concrete workflow benefits, provided your app uses them regularly enough to justify the usage.
Starter supports preview environments for 1 app and Flex compute only. Growth adds unlimited preview environments, Pro compute, worker clusters, team roles and permissions, and autoscaling up to 10 replicas. Preview capacity still contributes to the bill; unlimited environments does not mean unlimited free compute.
For a side project, sleeping can matter more than raw memory prices. For production, identify who would maintain the replacement server. If nobody can own that work, a lower infrastructure quote is incomplete. For managed platform comparisons, see our Laravel Cloud versus Render and Railway pricing.
When does a VPS cost less than Laravel Cloud?
A VPS usually costs less when an application runs continuously and can share server capacity with its database, cache and workers. A $24 server plus Forge Hobby costs $36 monthly against our $77 Cloud production example. That saving depends on the workload fitting and your team accepting responsibility for server operations.
Forge is the cheapest panel option here. Hobby is $12 for 1 external server, with unlimited Laravel VPS; Growth is $19 and Business $39, both with unlimited servers. Forge zero downtime deploys cover one server per site only. Our Laravel Cloud versus Forge comparison covers that distinction.
DeployManage Starter is $59 for 3 servers, 2 seats and manual deploys. Growth is $129 for 10 servers and 10 seats, adding push to deploy and zero downtime atomic releases with rollback across several servers. Business is $299 with unlimited servers and seats. Yearly billing is half the monthly price.
On the $24 server, DeployManage Starter totals $83 and Growth $153. Neither undercuts the $77 Cloud example. The busy app is different: on the $48 server, Starter totals $107 and Growth $177, against $168 on Cloud. DeployManage makes sense for teams that need seats, releases across several servers and a fleet-wide deploy log. Compare the actual plan on our DeployManage pricing page; Starter does not include atomic releases.
Is Laravel Cloud good for agencies with many client apps?
Laravel Cloud works well for agencies that value previews and managed infrastructure, especially when client apps sleep between visits. It becomes harder to justify on price when many apps run continuously. Consolidating suitable workloads on your own servers can reduce infrastructure spending, but it also puts capacity planning and client isolation in your hands.
Unlimited apps and team members do not remove each environment's resource costs. Growth also provides 50 custom domains and 7 day log retention, compared with Starter's 10 domains and 1 day. Match those limits to client requirements rather than buying a larger plan automatically.
A shared server lowers costs only if the workloads fit and sharing is acceptable. Keep busy or sensitive projects separate when necessary. Our Laravel hosting guide for agencies covers that decision. DeployManage's panel fee becomes easier to justify across several servers when the team needs its seats and deployment controls.
What do you give up when you leave Laravel Cloud?
Leaving Laravel Cloud means replacing managed infrastructure with responsibilities your team must assign and maintain. You give up the platform's integrated preview and autoscaling workflows unless you build replacements. On your own servers, database maintenance, backups, capacity planning and incident response become part of the hosting decision alongside the lower infrastructure bill.
A panel helps deploy an application, but someone must still restore data, investigate failed processes and handle a full disk. On your own servers, you own outages yourself, so agree on coverage and use an incident management tool that pages the right engineer when nobody is watching the dashboard.
Managed Cloud queues do not support Horizon. Run your own worker if you need it, and budget for that process on either setup. Our Laravel Horizon hosting guide covers workers. If you are also considering another deployment model, review our Laravel Vapor alternative comparison before choosing.
How to decide in 15 minutes
List every running service, mark which ones can sleep and calculate the Cloud bill after the usage credit. Price a server with the panel plan you would actually need. Then name the person responsible for outages. Choose the option whose total cost and operational responsibilities your team can sustain.
| Situation | Best choice | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Internal tool that mostly sleeps | Laravel Cloud Starter | Our $5.00 example beats renting a server and panel. |
| Small team without an operations owner | Laravel Cloud | Managed infrastructure covers work the team cannot staff. |
| Previews per PR and autoscaling bursts | Laravel Cloud Growth | Unlimited previews and autoscaling up to 10 replicas. |
| Steady app with an operations owner | VPS with Forge | Lowest panel cost for the server examples. |
| Team needing releases across several servers | DeployManage Growth or Business | Seats, atomic rollback and a fleet-wide deploy log justify the higher fee. |
Use the busy month, not just the quiet month, for your estimate. Before moving production, test deployment, data restoration and worker behavior. Every DeployManage account starts with a one-time demo covering 1 server, 1 site and 1 deploy, with no card. It is not a free plan.
Ready to stop managing servers by hand? DeployManage provisions, deploys and monitors your fleet from one dashboard.
Get startedFrequently asked questions
Is Laravel Cloud free?
No. Starter costs $5 per month plus usage after the free first month on Starter. Every plan includes $5 of monthly usage credit. There is no permanent free plan.
Is Laravel Cloud cheaper than Forge?
For a sleeping app, it can be. Our internal tool costs $5.00 on Cloud, less than a VPS plus Forge. For steady production, a $24 VPS plus Forge Hobby at $12 totals $36, compared with our $77.00 Cloud example. Forge fees exclude the server.
Does Laravel Cloud have spending limits?
Yes. Spending limits and alerts are available on Starter and up. Set them against a budget that includes the plan fee, compute, databases, workers, storage and other usage.
Does Laravel Cloud support Horizon?
Managed queues do not support Horizon. Run your own worker if you need Horizon, and include that worker compute in your monthly estimate.
Is Laravel Cloud good for production?
Yes, especially when your team values managed infrastructure and autoscaling. Growth adds Pro compute, worker clusters and autoscaling up to 10 replicas. Our worked production bills are $77.00 without a separate worker and $168.00 for the busy setup with a worker.
Can I move from Laravel Cloud to my own server?
Yes. Plan the application deployment, database transfer, storage, environment configuration, scheduler and workers. Test backups and restoration, then assign responsibility for server maintenance and outages before moving production.
Does Laravel Cloud have preview environments?
Yes. Starter supports preview environments for 1 app. Growth and above include unlimited preview environments, but running resources still incur usage charges.
Is Laravel Cloud worth it for a side project?
Usually, if the app sleeps much of the time and you want to avoid server maintenance. Our sleeping internal tool example costs $5.00 monthly on Starter. Estimate the database and any always on worker separately before applying that example to your project.
