DeployManage, server management for any cloud

Buddy Works Alternative and Buddy.Works Pricing for Server Deploys

Buddy deploys to servers you already run. DeployManage provisions those servers, keeps them patched, and deploys every Git push to them, so one tool covers the pipeline step and the box it lands on.

One-time demo, no credit card required.

Buddy and DeployHQ figures from each vendor's own pricing page. Your servers stay in your cloud account.

The short answer

The best Buddy.Works alternative for teams that deploy Laravel, PHP, Node.js or WordPress to their own VPS is a server panel with deployments built in, such as DeployManage, because Buddy only deploys to servers and leaves building and patching them to you. Buddy costs $29 a month for Pro (2 seats, $9 per extra seat) or $99 for Hyper, plus extra concurrent runs at $50. DeployManage Growth is $129 a month for 10 servers and 10 team members with atomic deploys. If you only need a pipeline, Buddy or GitHub Actions is cheaper.

What a server panel adds to the deploy step

Servers built the same way every time

Pick a provider, region and size. DeployManage installs Nginx, PHP-FPM or Node.js, MySQL or Postgres, Redis and Supervisor, and hardens SSH and the firewall.

Git push deploys as atomic releases

On Growth and Business, every push builds a fresh release folder, runs your commands, health-checks the result and swaps a symlink. Earlier releases stay for one-click rollback.

Certificates that renew themselves

Let's Encrypt certificates are issued for every domain and renewed before they expire.

Queue workers and cron that survive deploys

Horizon, queue workers and Node processes run under Supervisor and restart after every release, which is the step hand-written SSH scripts most often forget.

Team seats included in the plan

Starter has 2 members, Growth 10 and Business unlimited, with no per-seat charge on top. Every deploy and server change lands in one activity log.

Any cloud, your own account

Servers live in your DigitalOcean, Hetzner, AWS, Vultr, Linode or OVHcloud account, or on any Ubuntu VPS. Leave DeployManage and they keep running.

How it works

  1. 1
    Connect a cloud provider

Paste an API token, or add a server you already run over SSH.

  2. 2
    Provision the server

DeployManage installs and hardens the stack in a few minutes, the same way on every box.

  3. 3
    Link the repository

Connect GitHub, GitLab or Bitbucket and paste the deploy commands from your Buddy pipeline.

  4. 4
    Push to deploy

Each push becomes a release with a health check, and the previous one stays ready for rollback.

Who it's for

An agency deploying client sites over SFTP from Buddy

Each client has its own VPS, and the Buddy pipeline only uploads files. DeployManage takes over the deploy and the server upkeep that nobody owned, with one log per client.

A Laravel team paying for Buddy and a separate panel

Buddy runs the deploy, another tool (or a freelancer) keeps the servers alive. Consolidating means one place to look when a release fails and one bill for the panel.

A team whose seat count keeps growing

Buddy Pro charges $9 for every seat after the second. DeployManage Growth includes 10 members, so adding a contractor does not change the invoice.

A company whose deploy scripts only one person understands

The symlink and release scripts live in a pipeline one developer wrote. Moving them into a panel makes the release process the same on every server and visible to the whole team.

What is the best alternative to Buddy.Works?

If you use Buddy mainly to push web apps to servers you run yourself, the best Buddy.Works alternative is a server panel with deployments built in, because it also builds and maintains the servers Buddy deploys to. If you use Buddy for full CI (test suites, Docker builds, Kubernetes, preview sandboxes), stay with a CI/CD platform such as GitHub Actions or GitLab CI, or keep Buddy.

Buddy is a capable product and a lot of agencies adopted it for one feature: a visual pipeline that uploads a site over SFTP or SSH and runs a few commands afterwards. Buddy has since grown into a broad DevOps suite with sandboxes, visual tests, domains and AI agents, and it is priced by seats, concurrent runs and pipeline minutes. Teams that only ever needed the deploy step start to ask whether they are paying for the right thing, and who is looking after the servers on the other end.

How much does Buddy.Works cost?

Buddy has a Free plan, Pro at $29 a month and Hyper at $99 a month, and the real bill grows with extra seats, extra concurrent runs and pipeline minutes above the included amount. Buddy lists these amounts in US dollars in its page data; visitors in Europe see the same plans priced in euro.

Buddy planPriceSeats includedConcurrent runsPipeline GB-minutesPipeline cache
Free$0113001 GB
Pro$29/mo2 (extra $9/mo each)1 (extra $50/mo each)3,00010 GB
Hyper$99/mo5 (extra $29/mo each)2 (extra $50/mo each)6,00020 GB

Minutes above the allowance are billed at $0.0015 per GB-minute, which is why Buddy counts memory as well as time: a pipeline running in a 4 GB container burns the allowance four times faster than one in 1 GB. Hyper adds single sign-on over SAML and OIDC, which is often the real reason a company upgrades.

Worked out for a typical agency team of five developers:

SetupMonthly costWhat it covers
Buddy Pro, 5 seats$56 ($29 + 3 extra seats at $9)Pipelines and deploys; servers are yours to build and patch
Buddy Pro, 5 seats, 2 concurrent runs$106Two pipelines at once, still no server management
Buddy Hyper, 5 seats$99Adds SSO and more minutes
Buddy Pro 5 seats + Laravel Forge Growth$75 ($56 + $19)Pipelines plus Laravel server management
DeployManage Growth$129 ($64 billed yearly)10 servers, 10 team members, provisioning, atomic deploys and rollback

Read that table honestly: if all you need is a pipeline, Buddy Pro is cheaper than DeployManage, and Buddy plus Forge is cheaper too. DeployManage earns its price when the expensive part of your month is not the pipeline but the servers: provisioning a new client box, patching PHP, renewing certificates, restarting a stuck queue worker at 11 pm, and knowing who deployed what to which client.

Is Buddy.Works free?

Buddy has a Free plan with 1 seat, 1 concurrent run, 300 pipeline GB-minutes and 1 GB of cache. That is enough to try the pipeline editor or deploy a personal site. A team of two or more, or any project whose builds run a few times a day in a larger container, moves to Pro quickly.

DeployManage does not have a free plan. Every account starts with a one-time demo (1 server, 1 site, 1 deploy, no card), then Starter is $59 a month for 3 servers and 2 team members.

Does Buddy manage your servers?

No. Buddy deploys to servers you already have; it does not install or maintain the web server, PHP, databases, certificates or firewall on them. Its zero-downtime template uploads files over SFTP into a cache folder, then an SSH action copies them into a releases folder, switches a current symlink and keeps the last 10 releases so you can switch back.

That template is a good pattern, and it is the same idea DeployManage uses. The difference is ownership. With Buddy, the scripts live in your pipeline and you maintain them: if the release path changes, if a new server needs the folder layout, if a teammate edits the SSH step, the deploy logic changes with it. The box underneath (Nginx, PHP-FPM versions, MySQL, Redis, Supervisor, Let's Encrypt, the firewall, OS updates) is still somebody's weekend.

DeployManage covers both halves. It provisions the server on DigitalOcean, Hetzner, AWS, Vultr, Linode or OVHcloud (or any Ubuntu VPS over SSH), installs and hardens the stack, issues and renews certificates, runs queue workers and cron, and then deploys every push as an atomic release on Growth and Business plans. See how the release itself works on our deploy from Git page.

Buddy.Works vs a server management panel and which one you need

A quick way to decide is to list what broke in the last three months.

Agencies feel the server side more than anyone. One client per server means ten sets of PHP versions, certificates and backups to watch. Our page on Laravel hosting for agencies covers how teams structure that fleet.

Who should switch from Buddy, and who should stay

Switch if your Buddy pipelines are mostly "upload and run commands" jobs aimed at VPS servers, if you already pay a second tool (or a person) to keep those servers healthy, or if you want one audit trail for deploys and server changes across every client.

Stay if you build containers and deploy to Kubernetes, rely on Buddy sandboxes for preview environments, need SAML single sign-on across a large org, or deploy static sites to a CDN. DeployManage does not try to replace a CI suite, and it runs Laravel, PHP, Node.js and WordPress rather than every language in a container.

Consider something cheaper if cost is the only reason you are leaving. DeployHQ starts at 9 EUR a month for deploy-only use, and Laravel Forge starts at $12. Our DeployHQ alternative and Laravel Forge alternative pages compare those in detail.

How to move a Buddy pipeline to DeployManage

  1. List what the pipeline does. Open each Buddy pipeline and write down the actions after the build: SFTP upload, SSH commands (composer install, migrations, cache clears), notifications.
  2. Add the server. Connect your cloud account and provision a fresh server, or add the existing one over SSH. New servers are the cleaner route because the stack gets installed the same way every time.
  3. Connect the repository. Link GitHub, GitLab or Bitbucket and paste your deploy commands into the site's deploy script. Environment variables move from Buddy's encrypted variables into the site's environment.
  4. Deploy to a test domain. Push, watch the release build, check the app, the queue worker and the scheduler.
  5. Switch over. Point the domain at the server, then disable the Buddy pipeline trigger rather than deleting it, so you can compare the two for a week.

If a release ever misbehaves, rolling back a deployment is a single click because the previous release is still on disk.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best Buddy.Works alternative?

For deploying web apps to your own VPS, a server panel with deploys built in, such as DeployManage. For deploy-only use on servers someone else manages, DeployHQ. For Laravel-only teams, Laravel Forge. For full CI/CD, GitHub Actions or GitLab CI.

What are better alternatives to Buddy for deployment?

It depends on what Buddy is doing for you. If you only need pipelines, GitHub Actions or GitLab CI are cheaper because minutes come with your Git plan. If you deploy PHP apps to your own servers, DeployHQ (paid plans from 9 EUR a month) or Laravel Envoyer ($10 to $50) cover deploys only, while a server panel such as DeployManage, Laravel Forge or Ploi also provisions and patches the servers. DeployManage Growth is $129 a month for 10 servers and 10 members.

How much does Buddy.Works cost?

Free, Pro at $29 a month and Hyper at $99 a month. Pro includes 2 seats (extra seats $9 each), Hyper 5 seats (extra $29 each), and each extra concurrent run is $50 a month. Pipeline minutes above the allowance cost $0.0015 per GB-minute.

Is Buddy.Works free?

Yes, there is a Free plan with 1 seat, 1 concurrent run, 300 pipeline GB-minutes and 1 GB of cache. It suits a personal project; teams move to Pro.

Is Buddy works self hosted?

Buddy's current pricing page lists only its cloud plans (Free, Pro and Hyper) and no self-hosted price. If you need an on-premises install, ask Buddy's sales team directly. DeployManage is a hosted panel, but the servers it manages live in your own cloud account.

Does Buddy.Works support zero-downtime deployments?

Yes, through a template that uploads files over SFTP, copies them into a releases folder over SSH and switches a symlink, keeping the last 10 releases. You maintain those scripts in your pipeline.

Can Buddy set up a server for me?

No. Buddy deploys to existing servers. Installing and maintaining Nginx, PHP, databases, SSL and the firewall is left to you or to a server panel.

Is DeployManage cheaper than Buddy?

Not for a pipeline alone. Buddy Pro for five people is about $56 a month, and DeployManage Growth is $129. DeployManage replaces the pipeline step and the server management work, so compare it with Buddy plus whatever you pay to keep the servers healthy.

How much does DeployManage cost?

Starter is $59 a month (3 servers, 2 members), Growth $129 (10 servers, 10 members) and Business $299 (unlimited). Yearly billing is half price. Atomic releases and push-to-deploy are on Growth and Business. Every account starts with a one-time demo, no card.
