Upsun Pricing and Platform.sh Pricing With Real Monthly Bills for Symfony Apps
Upsun Flex, the usage based plan of the company formerly called Platform.sh, costs $9 per project and $10 per user a month, plus about $25 per app vCPU and $10 per GB of app memory a month (services such as MySQL cost $37 and $15), $0.50 per GB of disk, and a support tier that adds at least 10% to the whole bill. A small Symfony app with MySQL and one developer comes to about $93 a month. Five developers, a worker, Redis and two preview environments push it to about $343, and an agency with eight client apps pays about $697, against $115 to $225 for the same apps on servers you own.
Skip the manual setup. DeployManage provisions your server and ships zero-downtime deploys on any cloud.
Get startedUpsun is the name Platform.sh now operates under: the same company and the same git driven container platform, now sold under one brand with two pricing models. Upsun Flex is the newer model, billed by the resource hour. Upsun Fixed keeps the old Platform.sh plan sizes for teams that want a fixed monthly number. It is also the PaaS that Symfony's own deployment guide recommends, which is why so many Symfony teams price it first.
The pricing is honest but hard to read at a glance, because the bill has five moving parts. Below are the current rates in US dollars, taken from Upsun's own pricing page and calculator in October 2026, and three worked monthly bills for Symfony apps of different sizes.
How much does Upsun cost?
Upsun Flex costs $9 per project and $10 per user each month, plus the CPU, memory and disk you allocate, billed by the hour, plus a support tier that starts at 10% of the total. There is no fixed plan price. A new account gets a 15 day trial without a card and a first project credit of $19 a month, which covers one project fee and one user licence.
Here is the Flex price list converted to monthly figures, the way Upsun's calculator shows them in USD:
| Line item | Price in USD | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Project fee | $9 per project a month | Includes 10 GB egress and 500,000 requests |
| User licence | $10 per user a month | Billed per organization, not per project |
| Advanced user management | $9 per user a month extra | Teams, MFA enforcement, SSO |
| App container, shared CPU | $25 per vCPU a month | Guaranteed CPU $75 |
| App container memory | $10 per GB a month | Workers priced like app containers |
| Service container, shared CPU | $37 per vCPU a month | MySQL, PostgreSQL, Redis and the rest; guaranteed $90 |
| Service container memory | $15 per GB a month | Premium MongoDB and Elasticsearch cost more |
| Disk | $0.50 per GB a month | Backups billed separately |
| Extra egress | $0.03 per GB | After the included 10 GB |
| Extra requests | $1 per 100,000 | After the included 500,000 |
| Support | +10%, +15% or +19% of spend | Standard, Advanced (1 hour) or Premium (30 minutes) |
| Uptime SLA | +20% or +45% of resources | 99.9% or 99.99% |
Container sizes come in steps. An app container at 0.5 vCPU on the balanced profile gets about 1 GB of memory, a MySQL container at 0.5 vCPU on the high memory profile gets 1.375 GB. You pick the step, and the price follows from the rates above.
Upsun Fixed and the old Platform.sh plans
The plans many review sites still list as "Platform.sh pricing" now live on as Upsun Fixed. Upsun still publishes them, in USD:
| Upsun Fixed plan | Resources | Monthly price |
|---|---|---|
| Development | Development environments only | $12 |
| Essential | 0.65 vCPU, 0.65 GB RAM | $27 |
| Standard | 0.96 vCPU, 0.75 GB RAM | $55 ($66 with 2 GB RAM) |
| Medium | 2.09 vCPU, 3 GB RAM | $148.50 ($178.20 with 4 GB) |
| Large | 4.11 vCPU, 6 GB RAM | $297 ($356.40 with 8 GB) |
| X-Large | 8.22 vCPU, 12 GB RAM | $594 ($712.80 with 16 GB) |
| 2X-Large | 16.44 vCPU, 24 GB RAM | $1,188 ($1,425.60 with 32 GB) |
Fixed add-ons are priced separately: $11 per extra user, $23.10 for each block of 3 extra environments and $2.75 per 5 GB of extra storage. Euro prices you may see on older review sites (Essential at 22 euros, Standard at 45) are the same plans in a different currency, not a discount.
What a real Symfony app costs on Upsun
Three setups, all on Upsun Flex with shared CPU and the Standard support tier, which the calculator adds by default. Rounding is to the cent.
One app with MySQL, one developer, production only
App container at 0.5 vCPU and 1.06 GB: $23.13, plus 1 GB disk $0.50. MySQL at 0.5 vCPU and 1.375 GB: $39.13, plus 5 GB disk $2.50. Project fee $9, one user $10. Subtotal $84.25, plus 10% support: about $92.68 a month, or $73.68 while the first project credit applies.
App, Messenger worker, Redis and MySQL, five developers, two preview environments
Production: app at 1 vCPU and 1.875 GB with 2 GB disk $44.75, worker at 0.5 vCPU $14.69, MySQL at 1 vCPU and 2.375 GB with 10 GB disk $77.63, Redis at 0.25 vCPU $18.63, so $155.69. Each preview environment runs at the smallest size but copies the disk and keeps the worker at its production size, about $45.74, so two cost $91.49. Add 190 GB of egress past the included 10 GB ($5.70), the project fee ($9) and five users ($50). Subtotal $311.88, plus 10%: about $343 a month.
An agency with eight client Symfony apps, four developers
Eight copies of the first setup without its user licence cost $74.25 each in resources and project fee, so $594. Four users add $40. Subtotal $634, plus 10%: about $697 a month, before any preview environments or an uptime SLA.
Where the Upsun bill grows
The resource rates are not the surprise. The multipliers are. Every developer who needs console access is a $10 licence, $19 with SSO. Every preview environment is a second, smaller copy of the stack, and its disk is a full copy too. The support tier is a percentage of everything, licences included, so a team that moves to Advanced support for one hour responses pays 15% more on the whole bill. An uptime SLA adds another 20% or 45% of resource spend.
Service containers also cost about 50% more per vCPU than app containers, so a database heavy app pays more than the headline $25 suggests. And egress past 10 GB per project is cheap per GB but not free, which matters for apps that serve downloads or images without a CDN in front.
Agencies feel this most, because each client is a separate project with its own fee, database container and disk. If you rebill hosting to clients, it helps to pull every monthly cloud invoice into a spreadsheet so each client's share is visible before the retainer renews. Per site platforms bill agencies the same way: Pantheon charges a separate $55 to $1,150 site plan for every client site, as our Pantheon pricing breakdown shows with worked agency bills.
Upsun vs your own servers for Symfony
The alternative most Symfony teams compare against is a cloud server they control, with a panel that handles provisioning and deploys. Here are the same three setups on DigitalOcean Droplets ($24 for 4 GB, $48 for 8 GB, $12 for a 2 GB staging box):
| Setup | Upsun Flex | Laravel Forge + Droplets | DeployManage + Droplets |
|---|---|---|---|
| One app with MySQL, one developer | $92.68 | $36 | $83 (Starter) or $153 (Growth, zero downtime) |
| App, worker, Redis, MySQL, 5 developers, staging | $343 | $79 | $189 |
| Eight client apps, 4 developers | $697 | $115 | $225 |
Laravel Forge is the cheapest way to run Symfony on your own server in every row, and it deploys any PHP app. DeployManage costs more than Forge and less than Upsun from the second setup onward. It earns that gap when a team needs atomic releases across several servers without buying Envoyer, ten seats with an audit log, and one flat plan across many client apps. The Symfony deployment setup on your own servers page walks through the deploy script, shared folders and Messenger workers.
There is also a newer managed option. Laravel Cloud has run Symfony apps since June 2026 on the same plans as Laravel apps: Starter at $5 a month with $5 of usage included, Growth at $20, Business at $200, unlimited users on every plan, and Flex compute that scales to zero. For a team that wants no servers but finds per user licences expensive, it is the first platform to price against Upsun. Our Laravel Cloud alternative page covers when owning the servers is still cheaper.
Is Upsun worth it?
Upsun is worth it for a small team with one or two serious apps that wants preview environments per branch, managed services and no operating system work at all, and that values a vendor deeply tied into the Symfony ecosystem. Its rolling zero downtime deploys are still in open beta and apply to applications, not services, so check that against your release process.
It is a weaker fit when the bill is driven by people and projects rather than compute. Agencies with many client apps, teams of eight or more developers, and apps that need steady worker capacity usually pay two to four times more than the same workload on servers they own. If that describes you, compare Laravel Forge and its alternatives before you renew, or see every Platform.sh alternative priced on the same three setups.

Get startedFrequently asked questions
How much does Upsun cost?
Upsun Flex costs $9 per project and $10 per user a month, plus hourly CPU, memory and disk, plus a support tier from 10% of spend. App containers cost about $25 per vCPU and $10 per GB of memory a month. A small Symfony app with MySQL and one developer comes to about $93 a month.
Is Upsun the same as Platform.sh?
Yes. Platform.sh now operates as Upsun. The old Platform.sh plans are sold as Upsun Fixed, from $12 for Development and $27 for Essential up to $1,188 for 2X-Large, and Upsun Flex is the newer usage based model. Same company, same git driven container platform.
Does Upsun have a free trial?
Yes. Upsun offers a 15 day trial without a credit card, with a monthly credit covering the first project fee and one user licence. After the trial, new organizations get a first project credit of $19 a month, so a single small project pays only for resources and support.
How is Upsun billed?
Upsun Flex bills project fees and user licences monthly, and CPU, memory and disk by the hour based on the container sizes you allocate. Preview environments are billed for their own resources. Support and uptime SLA tiers are added as a percentage of spend.
Is Upsun cheaper than running your own server?
For one small app it can be close: about $93 a month on Upsun against $36 with Laravel Forge and a 4 GB Droplet. With more developers, preview environments or client projects, your own servers usually cost a quarter to a half of the Upsun bill.
What is the cheapest way to host a Symfony app?
A 2 to 4 GB cloud server at $12 to $24 a month with a deployment panel. Laravel Forge Hobby at $12 is the cheapest panel for one app. Teams that need seats, an audit log and releases across several servers pay more for a panel like DeployManage but still far less than a per project platform.
