ServerPilot Alternative: ServerPilot Pricing and Competitors Compared

Last updated September 10, 2026
The short answer

ServerPilot charges $5, $10 or $20 a month per server plus $0.50, $1 or $2 per app, billed hourly, so its cost rises with every site you add. Five servers running 40 sites cost $45 on Economy, $90 on Business and $180 on First Class. Flat-fee panels cost the same at site 5 and site 500: RunCloud is $19 for up to 50 servers, Laravel Forge Growth is $19 unlimited, Ploi is $36 unlimited, and DeployManage starts with a one-time demo with atomic deploys. ServerPilot stays cheaper only for a single server with a handful of apps.

Skip the manual setup. DeployManage provisions your server and ships zero-downtime deploys on any cloud.

ServerPilot's pricing was a reasonable deal when most people ran one server with a couple of WordPress sites on it. It charges per server and per app, billed by the hour, so the bill is tiny for a hobby box and grows every time a client signs. That growth is why most people searching for a ServerPilot alternative are agencies and freelancers whose site count went up while the work per site did not.

Every figure below was read off serverpilot.io, runcloud.io, laravel.com/forge/pricing, ploi.io and spinupwp.com in September 2026. All of these tools manage servers you rent yourself, so the cloud provider bill is separate in every case and is left out of the comparisons.

How much does ServerPilot cost?

ServerPilot costs $5 a month per server plus $0.50 per app on Economy, $10 per server plus $1 per app on Business, and $20 per server plus $2 per app on First Class. Usage is billed hourly from the moment you connect a server or create an app, and there is a 14-day trial with no credit card.

PlanPer serverPer appWhat the tier adds
Economy$5/mo$0.50/moServer management, free SSL, app isolation, multiple apps per server. No monitoring or priority support.
Business$10/mo$1/moServer resource metrics, PHP process metrics, log viewer, priority email support.
First Class$20/mo$2/moApp request and error metrics, MySQL health and cache metrics, high priority support.

ServerPilot counts any PHP application as an app, naming WordPress and Laravel, and a static site counts too. Each server can sit on a different plan, and you can change a plan at any time with the hours split between the two rates. Economy has no monitoring at all, so for client work Business is the fair tier to compare against other panels.

Why the per-app fee is the real cost

The per-server fee is predictable. The per-app fee is the part that follows your growth, because every new client site adds to it for as long as the site exists. Here is what four realistic fleets cost on each ServerPilot tier.

FleetEconomyBusinessFirst Class
Freelancer: 1 server, 4 sites$7$14$28
Small agency: 3 servers, 20 sites$25$50$100
Growing agency: 5 servers, 40 sites$45$90$180
Established agency: 20 servers, 150 sites$175$350$700

Compare those with flat panel fees for the same fleets. RunCloud Professional is $19 a month for up to 50 servers with unlimited apps. Laravel Forge Growth is $19 with unlimited servers and sites. Ploi is $10 for up to 5 servers, $16 for 10 and $36 for unlimited. At the growing agency row, five servers and 40 sites, ServerPilot Business is $90 against $19 on RunCloud or Forge, roughly $850 a year for the same job. At 20 servers and 150 sites, Business reaches $350 a month.

The freelancer row is the honest exception. One server with four sites costs $7 on Economy and $14 on Business, which undercuts every flat panel except Ploi's free plan, and that only covers a single site. If your fleet will stay that small, ServerPilot is not overcharging you.

What are the best ServerPilot alternatives?

The best ServerPilot alternatives are RunCloud for WordPress and PHP fleets, Laravel Forge for Laravel teams, Ploi for the lowest price between 2 and 10 servers, SpinupWP for WordPress-only shops, and DeployManage for mixed stacks that want atomic deploys, with a one-time demo before you pay. All five bill a flat or banded panel fee with no per-app charge.

PanelPricing modelPanel cost at 5 servers, 40 sitesDeploys

SpinupWPBase plan plus graduated per-server fee$38 Essentials, $49 AdvancedGit pull into the live site, then your deploy script
DeployManageFree plan, then a flat feeFlat fee, unlimited serversAtomic releases, health checks, one-click rollback

RunCloud is the most direct replacement for a WordPress-heavy ServerPilot account: any PHP app, unlimited web apps on every tier, $9 for one server and $19 for up to 50. Its atomic deployment and WordPress Toolkit sit on the $49 Business plan, so budget for that tier if deploy safety is the reason you are moving. We compare it in detail on the RunCloud alternative page.

Laravel Forge is the natural pick if most of your apps are Laravel. It includes zero-downtime deploys from the $12 Hobby plan, though Hobby connects only one external server, and Forge's own FAQ notes those deploys run on a single server per site. See the Laravel Forge alternative comparison for where it falls short.

Ploi is the cheapest for small fleets, with a free plan for one server and one site and a 5-day Pro trial that needs no card. SpinupWP is built only for WordPress and has the most polished WordPress defaults, but it charges per server after the first; the SpinupWP alternative and pricing page works through its ladder at 10 and 40 servers.

DeployManage is the option for fleets that mix WordPress with Laravel, Node or static front ends: servers in your own DigitalOcean, Hetzner, AWS or Vultr account, atomic releases with rollback, MySQL and PostgreSQL, and one activity log across every client. If your sites are mostly WordPress, the WordPress VPS control panel guide prices the whole stack for a ten site fleet.

Does ServerPilot have git deployment?

Not as a built-in feature. ServerPilot's documentation walks you through building your own GitHub Actions workflow that copies files over SSH and atomically swaps a symlink. It works and it is a sound technique, but you write and maintain the pipeline, and there is no deploy button or rollback in the dashboard.

If you want to keep that approach on any server, our guide to deploying to a server with GitHub Actions covers the same pattern. Most people leaving ServerPilot would rather have the panel run the release, keep previous releases on disk, and roll back in one click.

Is ServerPilot still worth it?

For one or two servers with a handful of sites, yes. The Economy tier is genuinely cheap, hourly billing suits servers you spin up for a week and delete, and mixing plans per server lets you pay for metrics only where you need them. ServerPilot also keeps its packages current, with automatic package updates run daily and support announced for Ubuntu 24.04 and 26.04 LTS.

It stops being worth it when the site count grows faster than the server count, when a team needs push-to-deploy without building CI, or when you want backups in the panel, since none of the three tiers lists them and you would rely on your provider's snapshots.

How to move off ServerPilot without downtime

Move site by site onto a new server running beside the old one, and switch DNS only after each site passes a test through a hosts file entry. Your ServerPilot servers already live in your own cloud account, so the move is a copy between two machines you control, and ServerPilot's hourly billing stops accruing as soon as you delete each app and server.

One technical trap catches people. ServerPilot installs Apache alongside Nginx, which is why .htaccess files work on it. Most modern panels serve PHP from nginx alone, and nginx ignores .htaccess entirely, so check each site for redirects, rewrite rules and access restrictions in that file and recreate them before cutover. WordPress permalinks are handled by the panel; custom redirects added by a plugin or a previous developer usually are not.

If nobody on your team has moved a production site between servers before, it is often cheaper to hire a vetted freelance sysadmin for the one-off move than to learn on a client's live store. Either way, do the lowest traffic site first, and for WooCommerce pause orders for the minutes between the final database dump and the DNS switch.

Frequently asked questions

How much does ServerPilot cost?

ServerPilot costs $5 a month per server plus $0.50 per app on Economy, $10 plus $1 per app on Business, and $20 plus $2 per app on First Class, billed hourly. Five servers running 40 sites cost $45, $90 or $180 a month depending on the tier.

Is ServerPilot free?

No. ServerPilot has a 14-day trial with no credit card that covers basic functionality. After that it bills hourly, starting at $5 a month per server plus $0.50 per app on the Economy tier.

What is the cheapest ServerPilot alternative?

For 2 to 10 servers, Ploi at $10 or $16 a month. For 11 to 50 servers, RunCloud Professional or Laravel Forge Growth at $19. DeployManage gives every new account a one-time demo to start. None of them charges per app, and in every case the cloud provider bills the servers separately.

ServerPilot vs RunCloud: which is cheaper?

RunCloud, once you run more than a few apps. For one server, RunCloud Essentials is $9 with unlimited apps, while ServerPilot Economy is cheaper only below 8 apps and ServerPilot Business costs more from the first app. From 2 to 50 servers RunCloud Professional stays at $19.

Does ServerPilot include backups?

None of ServerPilot's three pricing tiers lists backups, so plan on your cloud provider's snapshots or a separate backup tool. Panels such as RunCloud include backup storage in their plans, starting at 2 GB on the $9 Essentials tier.

Does ServerPilot support Laravel?

Yes. ServerPilot defines an app as any PHP application, naming WordPress and Laravel, or a static site. Each Laravel app is billed at the per-app rate of its server's plan, and deployment is something you set up yourself, for example with GitHub Actions.

Can I mix ServerPilot plans across servers?

Yes. Each server can be on a different plan and you can change a server's plan at any time. When you switch partway through a month, that server and its apps are billed hourly for the time spent on each plan.

Does ServerPilot have zero-downtime deploys?

Not built in. ServerPilot's documentation shows how to build a GitHub Actions workflow that swaps a symlink atomically, which gives zero-downtime releases if you write and maintain it. There is no deploy button or rollback in the ServerPilot dashboard.
